Aoede’s Story
Greetings! I am Lisa Sniderman, aka Aoede, pronounced (A-E-D). If you’re a fan of Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Feist, Erin McCarley, A Fine Frenzy, Meiko, Lily Allen, I hope my enchantingly quirky soprano voice and compelling pop music for your heart will resonate with you, as well.
Why Aoede? Once upon a time, in Greek mythology, way before the 9 celebrated muses, there was a muse named Aoede: the first “muse of song.” I chose this name both to inspire you to do whatever is inside your soul and to remember to be continually inspired.
On this website, you’re going to find out a lot about me through my blog, video postings, and music. I’m excited about this forum, and look forward to connecting with existing fans and making new friends from around my home city, San Francisco, and the rest of the world. Music is my lifeline. I just cannot stop creating.
I have Dermatomyositis and cannot perform live for awhile; so I intend to use other means to connect with you – and offer inspiration and support with every ounce of my soul. Through this medium, I have high expectations that by the time I can perform live again, walking out onto a lighted stage in front of many new and excited friends and fans is going to be a major milestone in my life. It’s going to be through our getting to know each other and mutual support that that date will be here before we know it.
In the meantime, I am excited to announce that Aoede was just Awarded 2 Awards for 2012 Artists in Music in Hollywood: BEST Folk-Acoustic Artist and ALBUM of the Year for Affair with the Muse! It is an incredible honor and thrill to be bestowed these awards.
My 2011 album, Affair with the Muse, is “the radiant and inspirational follow-up to my 2008 studio release, Push and Pull,” which was crowned Women’s Radio’s (www.womensradio.com),“Top Albums of the Decade,” on top of me being named their “Top Artist of the Year” for 2008, which was quite the honor. Affair with the Muse is available digitally from iTunes and other music download sites!
Because of the support of my amazing, generous and warm-hearted fans, I successfully funded a Kickstarter project in December 2011 to complete and release my next full length album: Skeletons of the Muse! Expect an April 2012 release!
In addition to creating my own music, I am also a strong promoter and advocate for women in music. I am a co-founder of WomenROCK (http://womenrocksf.wordpress.com), a San Francisco Bay Area-based women in music advocacy group that established in January 2006. We have produced many wonderful, multi-performer events to benefit local community-based non-profits, including Breast Cancer Action (www.bcaction.org), Women’s Community Clinic (www.womenscommunityclinic.org), and the GINA for Missing Persons FOUNDation (www.411gina.org).
I’m also a driven environmentalist with a passion for Blue Gold (water)! I started to combine my two loves for coastal/water issues and music and released my single, “Blue Gold” in September 2009 in conjunction with Coastal Cleanup Day, to celebrate our oceans and raise awareness for plastics and marine debris. This process sparked a new multi-media project, and I am now exploring interactive ways to use blogging, stories, music and film to inspire and connect teens with their watersheds.
I am excited to interact and share with you my music, passions, challenges and triumphs through my blogs, videos and other mediums. I hope you’ll join me and be part of my exploration as I move forward. Are you ready for the journey?? Breathe deeply in. Now, deep breath out. Okay… Let’s go!
