It’s ingrained in my mind
What counts is what’s inside
But like a false friend,
You only show me what’s skin deep
It’s replayed in clichés
But what we judge is what we see
And like an actor center stage
You show me who I pretend to beI look at you in search of something,
Something deeper-some new meaning

But all I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
If seeing is believing,
What is it we want to see?
All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface

It’s a lipstick lie
Hiding what’s on the inside
And like a model on display
You only show me vanity
It’s a partial view
Of a mixed up truth
But just like psycho-therapy
You just reflect it back to me

I look at you in search of something,
Something deeper-some new meaning

But all I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
If seeing is believing,
What is it we want to see?
All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Why do we bother with you at all
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Why do we bother-bother with you at all

All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
If seeing is believing,
What is it we want to see?
All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface

All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
All I do is scratch the surface
